Italy & Byzantium. The New Millennium in Pottery Studies

Workshop organized in collaboration with Professor Enrico Zanini (Università di Siena).

This workshop includes a keynote lecture by Professor Andrea Augenti (Università di Bologna) on Friday evening on the history and archaeology of Ravenna between 400-900 CE (see below). The workshop continues on Saturday and Sunday with presentations of invited Italian and international scholars on the archaeology (and in particular, ceramic studies) of Byzantine Italy, ranging geographically from Venice to Sicily. In light of the recent passing of John W. Hayes, who revolutionized pottery studies in the ancient Mediterranean, this workshop is dedicated to his memory.
