The
AIAC office is in Via degli Astalli 4, at the ground floor of the
“Palazzetto Venezia”, an ancient building which stood
close to today’s Piazza Venezia and which in 1911 was demolished
and rebuilt behind the Palazzo Venezia.The “Palazzetto Venezia”
was originally known as “the garden of San Marco”. It
was built by Pietro Barbo, the future Pope Paul II, between 1455 and
1468. It was used for receving guests and ambassadors. The first office
of the Association was in Piazza San Marco 49. In 1963, it moved to
via degli Astalli, to a part of the “Palazzetto” which
had been used during the Fascist period as barracks for the guards
of Mussolini.This is where the AIAC keeps the correspondence with
its members, updates the web site, and where the council normally
meets. The office was repaired in 1994.
